Commercial Roofing Insulation
Proper commercial roof insultation is important, especially with ever incrasing thermal performace requirements. Not only does it help manage a buiilding's energy consumption, but it also helps protect the build's roof and structural integirty. Lean morte about commercial roof insultation types offered by Firestone and the insulation that's included in Firestone Roof Systems:
POLYISO PRODUCT BENEFITS
What is polyiso? Polyisocyanurate thermal insulation, also referred to as polyiso, PIR, or ISO, is a popular low slope commercial building roof insulation. It is a thermoset, closed-cell foam that is an optimal insulation solution for low slope roofs. It can also be used as a roofing cover board and in building envelope applications. Polyiso products are a reliable alternative to other fibrous and rigid foam plastic insulation, as they can offer the following benefits.
-
Requires less embodied energy to manufacture than mineral wool
-
Compressive strength allows polyiso to stand up to foot traffic from routine maintenance
-
Does not require thermal barrier because it acts as one (per IECC 2012 ASHRAE 90.1)
-
Unique chemical bonds allow for outstanding resistance to fire; thermoset material doesn't melt when exposed to flame (ASTM E84)
-
Compatible with most construction adhesives, roof and wall coverings, and attachment system.
-
Cost-efficient polyiso insulation is one of the smartest investments you can make when insulating your building. Firestone products, in particular, deliver the highest thermal performance per inch of common low slope roof insulations. All Firestone polyiso insulations use EPA-approved blowing agents and qualify under the Federal Procurement Regulation for Recycled Material.
ISO PANELS
Are cold temperatures draining the HVAC budget? Firestone ISO boards perform better at low temperatures than competing products. Firestone ISO 95+ GL™ polyiso insulation has a higher R-value than other insulation products while also outperforming competitive polyiso at low temperature. Firestone ISOGARD polyiso insulation goes even further and was the first product on the market to meet both ASTM C1289 required and recommended thermal performance values.
COATED GLASS PANELS
Firestone coated glass products provide a double-coated, non-organic glass facer for added fire, wind, and mold protection, meeting Class A performance over combustible deck at only 1. Coated glass facers are also water repellent and highly resistant to moisture. Together, coated glass facers and polyiso insulation offer a solution that helps contractors and building owners satisfy durability, moisture, and thermal considerations.
COMPOSITE BOARDS
Firestone offers a complete and always advancing line of composite products, including ISOGARD™ HD Composite and HailGard. ISOGARD™ HD Composite combines our HD cover board and polyiso insulation during the manufacturing process, so contractors don't have to add the HD layer in the field and building owners receive high-performance insulation boards from the get-go. Firestone HailGard™ composite insulation is suitable for EPDM, TPO, modified bitumen and metal roofing systems, and specifically designed to protect against accidental punctures and hail.
COVER BOARDS
A cover board is a critical part of a commercial roofing system and can significantly extend the roof's life. Without a cover board, the building lacks added durability and is more vulnerable to fire, hail, and wind damage. The National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) has also endorsed the use of cover boards in all low-slope roofs due to the insulation's potential for facer-sheet delamination, powdering, shrinkage, cupping, and edge cavitation.
Firestone offers insulation adhesives that are easy to apply and always perform, along with the application equipment to get the job done. Learn more about Firestone's catalog of adhesives to find the right material for your insulation board installation.
